flagship exhibition of the Jerusalem Biennale 2019. website
Ziara presents a surprisingly updated selection of Moroccan art, as it challenges preconceived notions regarding what such art has to offer. Scrupulously looking back over the last decade, this show exposes the vibrancy of Maghribi traditions. This show confronts some conservative powers that keep Moroccan art stagnated, and suppress any attempt of renewal.
In questioning conventional aesthetic boundaries, the exhibition advances an ongoing Moroccan approach that opposes dichotic categorization. This approach blurs the differences between entertainment and culture, art and craft, rabbinical writing and YouTube channels, and between Jewish and Muslim cultures.
